United Way Honorees

Earlier today we spotlighted our June Volunteer of the Month.  Tasha Engh is such a wonderful example of giving time to change lives.  Aren’t we blessed to live in a community with SO MANY generous people devoted to sharing what they have to make the Cache Valley even better?

Recently, the United Way of Cache Valley recognized three individuals who embody the United Way mission to Give, Advocate and Volunteer in our community.

We would like to offer our congratulations to these outstanding people by sharing some of the reasons United Way chose them to receive such a well-deserved honor:

Dolores Gossner Wheeler, president and CEO of Gossner Food was honored for her support of our local chapters of 4-H and FFA, as well as other youth and charitable organizations in the Cache Valley.

Saboor Sahely, owner of Angie’s Restaurant, "where the locals eat" has made giving back to the community a huge part of his business. Whether it is sitting on the board of a local charity, feeding Cache Valley Thanksgiving dinner, or donating his proceeds to local non-profits, Saboor shares his blessings with those who are in need.

Matt Whitaker, manager of the Cache Community Food Pantry, has served as director of the Food Pantry since June of 2003. With the help of many dedicated volunteers and a generous and caring community, has been able to build a brand new facility that serves the needs of many families and individuals in Cache Valley. He finds great satisfaction in seeing people improve their lives and hearing their success stories.

Thank you all for giving so much to so many!

June Volunteer of the Month

Every month we select one very special volunteer as our Volunteer of the Month.  We enjoy sharing each unique story of dedication.  This month’s honoree is yet another example of faithful service.

Tasha Engh began volunteering for Four Paws Animal Rescue nine years ago at just 15 years of age.  Since then, Tasha has finished high school, attended USU, got married, became a mother, and moved to Brigham City.  She has also remained completely dedicated to her service for the animals at the shelter through it all!

What started as a 10-hour service project evolved into a passionate cause that she now shares with her dedicated husband and her precious little girl!   What a wonderful gift she shares with all of us, Four Paws Rescue, and the hundreds of animals she has humbly cared for during a time in her life when many young adults are focused on less altruistic activities.

The finer details of Tasha’s story will deeply touch your heart.  Those at Four Paws Rescue describe Tasha as “very dedicated and amazing”.

We agree!

Art on the Lawn

When I offered to take engagement photos for my sister last summer, I knew just the place to go. My weekly drive to the North Logan library with my kids took me past a lovely old home on 2300 North (a street my kids call 'Deer Street' for the deer we so often see wandering  there). I thought the gorgeous orange poppies lining the street in front of an old wood fence would make a great background.  We arrived and set out to ask permission of the owners to take pictures, and found another group there setting up for a wedding to be held on the property a few days later. From them I first learned about Art on the Lawn and the generosity of the owners, Cary and Lucy Watkins.

Art on the Lawn is an annual fundraising event where local artists can show and sell their work, and even set up and create new works of art. Celebrating its 10th year, the  activity will host artists, observers, musicians and performers along with a silent auction all at the Old Home and its surrounding property. Created to celebrate Cache Valley artists, Art on the Lawn has now raised over $65,000 which has been given to various local groups -- high school art programs at Logan, Mountain Crest and Skyview High Schools, the Alliance for the Varied Arts, Friends of the North Logan Library, and the Cache Education Foundation.

Admission is free, so come support local artists from Cache Valley and enjoy a beautiful day of art in a wonderful summertime location!  (Interested in helping with this event? Contact Lucy Watkins at 435-752-4749)
