Global Goals for Sustainable Development

On September 25th, 193 world leaders will commit to the Global Goals for Sustainable Development. 17 goals to achieve 3 extraordinary things in the next 15 years.
  • End extreme poverty.
  • Fight inequality and injustice.
  • Fix climate change.
If every school in the world teaches children about these goals, we will help them become the generation that changed the world. Schools in over 100 countries are taking part and we want you to join them! All you have to do is teach a lesson about the Global Goals sometime next week. Spend 30-60 minutes introducing students (or youth) to this new "to-do" list for people and the planet in assembly, in your class, or wherever you work with youth. All the resources you need are available in 10 languages at www.globalgoals.org/worldslargestlesson.

Spread Peace and Kindess through Service!!

Martin Richard was an 8-year-old boy who believed in togetherness, teamwork and inclusion. Martin was tragically killed when the second of two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. We can honor his wish for a more peaceful world by being kind and compassionate. This fall, from September 14th - October 16th, generationOn, Hasbro and the Martin Richard Foundation invite you to join us in spreading peace and kindness. Whether it's planting a peace garden, making a get-well card for a sick friend, or simply inviting someone new to sit at your school lunch table, there are many free and easy ways to help us create a more peaceful world. Visit www.generationOn.org/peace  to learn about ideas on how to create peace in your community.

Last Day of the Compassion Games!!

Every day is a profound opportunity to choose how we wish to be and play in the world. With courage and imagination, we can intentionally live life in a way that leads to the healing and positive development of our communities and precious planet.

From September 11-September 21 Compassion Games International has been offering fun and creative ways to ignite and catalyze compassionate action in communities around the world. The goal of the Compassion Games was to amplify what is already working and inspire new ways to care for ourselves, each other and the Earth. In the Compassion Games, competition became coopetition as we challenged one another to strive together to make our planet a better place to live.

We want to hear what you did to be a part of the Compassion Games here in Cache Valley. Please send  a summary of your Compassion Games experience to us at CacheVolunteerCenter@gmail.com. Then watch for us to post some of our favorites in the blog in a couple of weeks. You can also post your story in our facebook group located HERE

Grandparents Day ~ September 13th

gulogo.jpg
Save the date for Grandparents Day 2015 – September 13, 2015. But why not celebrate Grandparents Day all year long through intergenerational service programs? Generations United encourages youth to start, expand and lead intergenerational programs in their communities. To help, GU provides a Youth-Led Intergenerational Toolkit and the online interactive companion guide. Both of these resources outline the important steps for creating programs - prepare, plan, engage, implement, share and evaluate - designed to promote intergenerational solutions to societal challenges and build stronger communities.

Whittier Center Trade-up Update!

The Whittier Community Center is still Trading Up! We started with an antique marble and are trading up as a fundraiser that will support the center and its playground. We currently have a 1940s antique radio that is very cool that we are offering to trade. For details and to see what they currently have to offer as a trade, see their website at www.whittiercenter.org or call (435) 753-9008. Then make a trade offer. You can get something fantastic, help a great cause, receive a tax write-off, and be a part of something fun! What do you have to trade?
This event is happening every day until Friday, September 18, 2015 at 12:00 AM

Trade-up History!!
We started with an antique handmade glazed marble that is from the days of the Whittier School.  We will continue to trade up, selling the final item to raise funds for programs and the playground here at the Whittier.  Please help us get the word out by 'liking' our Facebook posts about the event and by telling your friends and neighbors.  The current trade item will be posted on this page of our website as the trading progresses.  Check back frequently to see what we are trading.  Then look around your own home and see if you have anything you would like to trade for that item.  Traders will receive tax write-offs as the items increase in value and the satisfaction of helping out a worthwhile cause...as well as the opportunity to be involved in something really fun.  Photos of each trade will be posted on this site.  Please be generous in offering items of value to trade.  If you have something you would like to offer in trade for whatever our current trade may be, please email director@whittiercenter.org with a photo and/or good description of the item.  Our executive board of directors will be selecting from offers that come in.  What do you have to trade?

Trade #1

We traded the antique handmade marble for this Pantini 3/4 size student violin.  It comes with a soft shell case (with some wear on the neck edge) and a bow.  Perfect for 10-14 year old violin students.  If you would like it, make us a trade offer!

Trade #2

We traded the violin for a Firestone Air Chief antique radio.  It doesn't have a date stamp, but similar ones online are dated from the mid-1940s. It is not currently operational, but it looks really cool and would make a great addition if you like the vintage look. As you can see from the photo, some of the wood veneer has peeled off. It is in the director's office at the Whittier, so feel free to drop in and inspect it. Then make us a great offer for a trade and the radio can be yours!
Here are pictures of the items traded:
