40 days of Peace are underway in the wake of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. I am a latecomer and have had Internet issues but I don't think anyone will mind me being peaceful today. Maybe it's ok for one to exercise peace principles a week beyond the 40 or even after that. That's pretty silly but it would be good for anyone and everyone to jump right into the middle whenever you happen to find out about it. Then there's the ripple effect.

The Cache Valley Volunteer Center is participating in the 40 Days project and anyone is welcome to join. Go here for more information: mlkflc.org/40daysofpeace. Part of Dr. Kings' agenda was to make a difference concerning poverty. The volunteer center is therefore conducting a Financial Wellness workshop the rest of this month and throughout February. It is not too late to get involved and learn about better management of your money.

February 28th there will be the 2nd Annual Youth Leadership Summit. Youth looking to better themselves this year, develop leadership skills, and get involved in service in the community, the Youth Leadership Summit is one way to do that.

As for the 40 Days of Peace, ANYONE can participate and it will only take a couple minutes of your time. You are welcome to serve your neighbor, assist your favorite non-profit, serve at your school or your work, or most importantly, serve your family. Make it real by writing it down and signing this pledge to commit to yourself and others that you WILL DO SOMETHING! Anything that you are willing to share is a success!

Report: Volunteering in America Remains Strong

The new Volunteering and Civic Life in America research report shows that service to others continues to be a priority for millions of Americans. The findings from the annual study were released today by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and the National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC).
This year’s study found that 62.6 million adults (25.4 percent) volunteered through an organization in 2013. Altogether, Americans volunteered nearly 7.7 billion hours last year and the estimated value of that service is $173 billion.
