April 1st is Mayors Day of Recognition of National Service!

Mayor Craig Petersen 'ran' for Mayor in the 2013 elections, and he's been running ever since he took the helm in January 2014. A strong supporter of promoting volunteerism among citizens to maximize community resources, Mayor Petersen will be joining with other mayors in the valley at the historic Cache County Courthouse on Tuesday, April 1, at 12:00 noon for the 2014 Mayor's Day of Recognition of National Service. The meeting will be less than 30 minutes in length, but will show the strength of the support we have in the valley for volunteerism. Refreshments will be served after.

Other participating mayors include:
     Stephanie Miller from Hyrum
     Don Calderwood from Providence
     James Brackner from River Heights
     Darrell Simmons from Smithfield
     Thomas Bailey from Wellsville

The nation's mayors are increasingly turning to national service as a cost-effective strategy to address city challenges. By unleashing the power of citizens, AmeriCorps and Senior Corps, along with other volunteer programs, have a positive and lasting impact - making Cache Valley a better place to live.  Every day volunteers handle tough problems and help strengthen communities. Through the Corporation for National and Community Service- the sponsor of several programs that provide valuable volunteers here in Cache Valley to a wide variety of non-profit organizations and schools - over five million citizens donate over 100 million hours to their communities.

All of the mayors of Cache Valley have been invited to attend Tuesday's event, and those listed above have signed proclamations making April 1 Mayors' Day of Recognition in their cities.

The Cache Valley Volunteer Center is extremely grateful to each of these mayors for their support of volunteerism and their recognition that the work volunteers do makes a tremendous, positive difference in our communities. On this important day we pledge our commitment to do everything we can to better support our partner organizations, our partner businesses, and all Cache Valley citizens in promoting volunteer opportunities as a way to improve our communities, help our youth find meaningful ways to serve that will help them develop leadership skills and become civically engaged, and strengthen and expand the many services already offered here in Cache Valley.
