TEAM Mentoring Receives a Grant to Address Hunger Issues!

The youth make a difference initiative

TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More

The TEAM Mentoring program will engage in several initiatives to address food security, nutrition, and food education including a weekly backpack program at Wilson Elementary, Food Fun! nutrition education program for 1,000+ elementary students, a bi-monthly Loaves and Fishes community meal, expand the composting program to other elementary schools, and other programs as determined and designed by high school students in the TEAM Mentoring program at Logan High School. All projects are 100% youth-led with high School students taking a leadership role in planning and implementing the projects. More than 2,000 youth will be impacted. The funding will be used to purchase supplies for the various projects. Through incorporating the 'You Got Served, Pay It Forward, Pass It On' campaign we promoted throughout 2014 in conjunction with UServe Utah we will encourage ongoing involvement in hunger issues throughout the community and particularly in the schools.  This initiative will empower those it helps by first addressing the food security, nutrition, and food education issues they face individually, and also modeling for them how change can be brought about, and how they can become a part of the solution.

A huge THANK YOU to Opal Apple for providing us with the funding for these projects!!

Taste the Opal Difference

You can't compare apples to Opals!

Opal apples can’t be compared to an everyday apple. These sunny fruits are like none other — with a beautiful appearance, distinctively crunchy texture, floral aroma and a sweet, tangy flavor. But one of the most incredible and natural features of this apple is that it does not brown after cutting. So an Opal a day will keep your salads — and your kids’ lunchboxes — crisp and fresh.
Non-GMO Project Verification
Opal apples are Non-GMO Project verified. They are the first U.S. apple variety to be verified by the Non-GMO Project, the only independent verification in North America for non-GMO food. These naturally non-browning apples are and have always been in compliance with the Non-GMO Standard.

The Opal® brand apple was discovered in Europe in 1999. This new apple-flavor stems from a cross between a Golden Delicious and a Topaz.
Over the last 12 years, Opal® brand apple has been tested in 63 orchards throughout Europe and the Mediterranean.

In March of 2010, Opal® brand apple made its debut appearance in the United States grown exclusively by Ralph Broetje, Broetje Orchards in Washington State. Opal® Brand apple is being marketed and distributed exclusively in North America by FirstFruits Marketing of Washington.
